The Consortium “Role and functions” Ruolo e funzioni
The Consortium for the Protection of Treviso Red Radicchio and Variegated of Castelfranco was founded in 1996 as a result of the publication in the GUCE of Reg. (EC) 1263/96, which recognized protected Geographical areas for the Treviso Red Radicchio and the Variegated of Castelfranco.
The Consortium expressly provided by the statute (download PDF) has the function of protection, promotion, enhancement, consumer information and general care of interests relating to naming PGI.
Specifically the Consortium has the duty of:
Ensure proper use of the names “Red Radicchio of Treviso PGI”, in two different types of Premature (Precoce) and Belated (Tardivo), and “Variegated Radicchio of Castelfranco PGI” and protect them against any abuse
Oversee the radicchio production in order to safeguard the typicality and the characteristics laid down in the product specification
Promote and disseminate the knowledge and consumption of Red Radicchio of Treviso PGI Premature and Belated, and Variegated Radicchio of Castelfranco PGI in Italy and abroad and ensure its commercial exploitation
Assist producers and packers in order to facilitate and improve the production and marketing in Italy and abroad of protected cultivations, including training courses.
